A 53-year-old businessman, Mr Adimike Godwin, has allegedly been killed by his son, a serving National Youth Service Corps member, following a heated argument at their home in the Guzape area of Abuja.

A source who is an executive member of the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria described the deceased as a prominent electrical dealer and respected union member who owned houses in Lekki, Lagos, and in Guzape and Maitama, Abuja.

The source explained that the businessman had travelled to Abuja to see his first son, who is serving there for his youth service and also manages some of his father’s real estate business.

According to the source, the son reportedly returned from a club and confronted his father about being unfair with money, citing how some of his friends’ fathers, who are not as wealthy, buy cars for their children.

Following the confrontation and an argument over mismanagement of business funds, the son allegedly stabbed his father three times in different parts of the body. The boy is currently in police custody in Abuja, and the wife of the deceased has also been invited for questioning.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the incident came to light after concerned persons raised the alarm over their inability to reach the deceased. Police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood, and he was confirmed dead by doctors on duty at Karu General Hospital.

The police have taken five suspects, including a relative, into custody as part of a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police.
