The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a rehabilitated public primary school in Daga community of Jibia Local Government Area, with funding support from the humanitarian organisation, Mercy Corps.

The inauguration, which took place on Tuesday in Daga village, highlighted ongoing efforts to advance education, peacebuilding and community resilience in areas of the state affected by conflict.

The rehabilitation was carried out under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme, an initiative funded by the European Union.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal-Jobe said the project was one of 26 interventions implemented under the Conflict Mitigation and Community Reconstruction framework, launched in 2025.

Mr Lawal-Jobe disclosed that 25 projects had already been completed and commissioned across the state, adding that the rehabilitation of Daga Primary School was the final project under the framework.
“The community must take full ownership of this facility, because sustainability depends largely on local commitment,” Mr Lawal-Jobe said.

He called on parents and guardians to give priority to education, noting that “education remains the foundation for development and lasting peace”.

The deputy governor said similar interventions had been executed in Jibia, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Sabuwa, Faskari and Dandume local government areas.

According to him, the projects covered the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, provision of potable water, veterinary services, solar power installations and other critical infrastructure.
Earlier, Senior Programme Manager at Mercy Corps, Philip Ikita, described the CPCRR initiative as a continuation of peacebuilding efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of conflict.

Mr Ikita said the programme is being implemented in 48 communities across Katsina and Zamfara states, with a focus on strengthening social cohesion, resilience and socio-economic recovery.

He explained that the project is being implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with Mercy Corps and the Centre for Democracy and Development.
