Two separate fire outbreaks at filling stations in Kano State have destroyed seventeen tricycles and two petrol tankers.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incidents in a statement on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.

The first fire occurred at the AA Ayagi filling station on Gwarzo Road in Kabo Local Government Area on Tuesday at about 8:45 pm. A fuel tanker with registration number XPB 999 FA, owned by AA Ayagi Company, caught fire while offloading petrol. The inferno completely destroyed the tanker, though two of its compartments had already been discharged.

The second incident happened at Al-Wahida Nigeria Limited filling station at Rimin Kebe, Nassarawa LGA. A tanker belonging to BA Bello Company (registration number KHX 29 XA), carrying about 45,000 litres of petroleum, ignited during offloading. The fire destroyed the truck’s head and part of its body, and completely burnt 17 tricycle machines (Adaidaita sahu) parked nearby.

Abdullahi noted it was “by God’s intervention” that the blaze was contained from spreading further, saving a portion of the products and part of the tanker.

In a separate incident, a fire at Kundila Quarters near SALSA College destroyed one room, a toilet, and a corridor in a residential building.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged filling station operators and tanker drivers to strictly adhere to safety regulations during fuel handling.

This comes after a major fire on Sunday at the Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ogun State, which spread from an industrial facility to nearby residential areas.
