The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Bilal Ya’u, for the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson Nafiu Habib, in a statement on Friday, said the suspect was apprehended after the victim’s father reported the incident on January 6, 2026.
The report stated that on January 5, Ya’u, a neighbour, lured the minor into an uncompleted building and “forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor.”
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Alkaleri, Kadiri Danjuma, evacuated the victim to the General Hospital in Alkaleri for medical examination and treatment.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. Shockingly, the investigation revealed this was not the first assault. “Additionally, it was discovered that the suspect had sometimes in 2024 during the rainy season rape the same minor and was warned by the mother to stay away from her daughter,” the police statement revealed.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion.
