The Zamfara State Police Command has reported that its Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully repelled a planned attack by armed bandits along the Dansadau–Gusau highway, rescuing five abducted women and children in the process.
According to a statement by the State Police Spokesman, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the officers were on a confidence-building patrol along the Gusau–Dansadau Road when they encountered motorists and commuters who had been blocked by bandits.
“The operatives swiftly engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the bush with possible gunshot injuries, abandoning their victims in the process,” the statement said.
Abubakar noted that the bandits had earlier abducted women and children travelling from Wanke District to Gusau and were in the process of taking them deeper into the bush before the police intervention.
The rescued victims were conveyed in a police vehicle to Gusau, where they received prompt medical attention before being reunited with their families.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, reassured the public of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to provide timely and credible information to aid police operations.
