Nigerian music star, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, alongside social media commentator, Otse Vincent, also known as VeryDarkMan, has visited the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos.

The visit was confirmed on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State Command, Joseph Osho Onimisi.

According to the NCoS, the duo was received by the newly appointed Officer-in-Charge of the facility, Deputy Controller of Corrections, Sanni Richard.

Onimisi explained that the purpose of the visit was to understand the legal and administrative procedures involved in paying fines for inmates who are eligible for release under the law.

He said the Officer-in-Charge provided detailed explanations on how fine payments are processed, the criteria inmates must meet to qualify, and the safeguards in place to ensure transparency and compliance with court orders.

“The Service reiterates that the payment of fines for eligible inmates is a lawful process guided strictly by court judgments, correctional regulations, and due process,” Onimisi said.

He added that no inmate could be released without proper verification, documentation and approval in line with existing laws.

Onimisi further assured the public that inmates in NCoS custody are kept in safe and humane conditions, in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019 and international best practices.

“The rights, dignity, welfare and rehabilitation of inmates remain a core priority of the Service,” he said.

The Lagos State Command also commended individuals and groups who support lawful efforts aimed at promoting access to justice, reducing congestion in custodial centres and improving inmate welfare.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service remains committed to safe custody, humane treatment, reformation, rehabilitation and the successful reintegration of inmates into society,” the statement added.
