Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has received a new traditional title from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
She was installed as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua during a ceremony at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday. Mrs Tinubu arrived at the palace around 1 pm and was welcomed by the monarch, his chiefs, and a large crowd gathered for the event.
The installation took place at the Palace Square and also formed part of the celebrations marking the Ooni’s 10th coronation anniversary. The event attracted traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Yorubaland, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the Soun of Ogbomoso.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua carries deep cultural weight. It was once held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
According to the palace, the honour is given to women who show strong leadership, influence, and service to society, especially within Yoruba culture.
This latest recognition adds to the First Lady’s growing list of traditional titles this year. In August, she was named Iya Oba of Ikorodu by Oba Kabir Shotobi in Lagos State. In June, the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council honoured her with the title Ugosimba I of Enugu for her humanitarian work. In October, she received the title Sarauniyar Yaki, meaning Queen Warrior, from the Lamido of Akko in Gombe State for her efforts to protect vulnerable groups in the country.
