Three members of Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s advance team were attacked on Tuesday by unknown gunmen in Owerri, Imo State.
The attack happened between Umuowa and Ihite junction, a short distance from the Sam Mbakwe Airport.
According to information from the governor’s office, the gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying the officials as it approached the airport corridor.
In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha, explained that the targeted officials were part of an advance team, not the main convoy.
“In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen,” the statement said.
“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.”
Ukoha added that Governor Otti was not involved in the incident and confirmed that no lives were lost.
