The Kogi State government on Sunday said security operatives have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim church in Ejiba, Yagba West LGA, and kidnapped the pastor, his wife, and several church members during the morning service.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the incident and said the state’s joint security network has already moved into action.

Fanwo said, “Yes, I have information to that effect, and I am also aware that the security network, comprising the conventional security agencies and the local security architecture, is currently doing what they should do.”

He added that officials of the Yagba West Local Government Council are working closely with security agencies to ensure that all abducted victims are rescued alive.

According to him, “The perpetrators already know that Kogi will do everything possible to secure every one of its citizens abducted.

“The Governor of the State, His Excellency Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo, is coordinating activities, and we will keep the press updated on the operations.”

Fanwo urged residents to remain alert and report any strange movement or unfamiliar persons to security operatives. He also advised worship centres located in isolated areas to reconsider holding services there until the security situation improves.
