Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over the unauthorised use of his image—especially AI-generated photos—in online advertisements and product endorsements, warning that such acts are misleading and potentially fraudulent.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Obi condemned the ongoing use of his likeness by individuals and organisations seeking to promote various products without his approval.

He revealed that some of these promotions have even been tied to fraudulent activities.

“Ordinarily, I would gladly support any genuine endeavour by Nigerians that contributes positively to our nation and to the people involved, but not without authorisation,” Obi stated.

The former governor of Anambra State explained that despite multiple public denials issued by his media team, his image continues to be used without consent, often by what he described as “unscrupulous persons” targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

“For this reason, I wish to state categorically that I am not associated with any of these advertisements,” he said.

“This has therefore compelled me to once again caution the public to exercise vigilance and to disregard any such adverts linking me to products, endorsements, or business schemes.”

Obi’s remarks come amid a growing trend of AI-generated content and manipulated imagery being used for deceptive promotional campaigns online.
