Man stabs grandparents to death in Kano over food dispute

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death during a quarrel over food.

The tragic incident happened on Thursday morning at about 9:30 a.m. in Kofar Dawanau Quarters, Dala Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying the matter was reported immediately to the Dala Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to him, the suspect, believed to have been under the influence of intoxicants, attacked his grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, 65, with a knife after a heated disagreement.

“The victims sustained multiple stab wounds and were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where doctors confirmed them dead on arrival,” Kiyawa said.

Their bodies were later released to family members for burial in line with Islamic rites.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” the police spokesperson added.
