The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with the vandalism of a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, located in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Saturday.

He identified the suspects as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, and Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State. They were arrested through a coordinated operation involving the Bunza Divisional Police Officer and local vigilantes.

According to Abubakar, the suspects broke into the school premises at about 3 a.m. on September 10, tied up the security guard on duty, and used chainsaws and other tools to dismantle the transformer.

“A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used by the suspects, was recovered at the scene, along with the vandalised armoured cable wires and tools used in the crime.

“While two of the suspects were arrested on the spot, further discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the fleeing gang members,” he stated.

CSP Abubakar confirmed that the suspects remain in custody and will soon be charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the swift and effective response of the Bunza DPO and vigilante personnel, highlighting the significance of community partnership in crime prevention.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of all residents. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
