The United States Mission in Nigeria has restated that visa application fees paid by Nigerians remain non-refundable, no matter the outcome of their applications.
The Embassy made this known on Tuesday through a post on its official X handle, following renewed questions from Nigerians who had expressed concerns about the strict policy.
“We hear your concerns regarding US visa application fees. Like most countries, US visa fees cover the cost of processing the application, regardless of the outcome,” the Mission explained.
It stressed that the policy is not unique to Nigeria but part of global practice, pointing out that the fee covers administrative and processing costs whether a visa is approved or denied.
“While fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, each application is reviewed thoroughly and fairly,” the Embassy added.
The Mission also urged Nigerians seeking visas to take extra care while preparing their applications in order to improve their chances.
