Chaos erupted at the Onitsha Main Market near Emeka Offor Plaza on Tuesday after operatives of the OCHA Brigade allegedly opened fire, killing four people, including a pregnant woman.

The OCHA Brigade, a state-backed enforcement agency tasked with enforcing environmental laws, maintaining order, and promoting public health, reportedly entered the market to compel traders to remove goods from unauthorized areas.

Eyewitnesses said tensions escalated when traders resisted the directives, leading to a heated confrontation.

According to reports, the operatives then opened fire sporadically, resulting in the tragic deaths.

The shooting sparked outrage among market traders, some of whom staged protests to condemn the killings and demand justice for the victims.
