The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The government congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion and urged them to reflect the Prophet’s teachings in their daily lives.
“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement read. “We encourage Nigerians to embrace the virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, which the Prophet stood for.”
The statement also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, security, and unity, adding that collective efforts are needed to foster development and stability in the country.
Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal), is celebrated with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity.
