The Ekiti State Government has given the Benin Electricity Distribution Company a seven-day deadline to restore power to Ago Aduloju community or face a lawsuit.

In a letter dated August 8 and addressed to the BEDC Ekiti Coordinator, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utility Prof. Mobolaji Aluko and Attorney General Dayo Apata (SAN) said the outage, which has lasted three months, violates agreements reached with the company.

“Issues such as money owed to BEDC, a repayment plan, splitting the community transformer for individual prepaid meters, and community contributions for meters and installation had all been discussed and agreed upon,” the statement said.

The government expressed regret that despite repeated visits and appeals, BEDC Electricity Ekiti Limited had refused to restore power, giving what it described as “untenable reasons.”

“BEDC Electricity Ekiti Limited has an obligation to energise the community, being one of the distribution company’s primary responsibilities and services to the public,” the statement added, noting that agreements were reached in a meeting on May 8, 2025.

It said the continued blackout had caused serious hardship for residents. The government warned that if power is not restored within the seven days, it will take the matter to court.
