The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has ridiculed former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent claim that he could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if given the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lagos APC described Amaechi’s assertion as “the desperate outburst of a political has-been seeking relevance,” maintaining that the former Rivers State governor lacks the political structure, national reach, and credibility to challenge President Tinubu.

“The notion that he could unseat a sitting president—elected with a clear mandate and respected across all regions—on the platform of a fringe party like the ADC is not only unrealistic but also absurd,” the party stated.

The APC also accused Amaechi of political inconsistency and pointed to his alleged inability to secure victory in his own polling unit during the last election.

It dismissed his claim of knowing President Tinubu’s “weaknesses” as a reflection of political bitterness and a troubled career trajectory.

“While President Tinubu has built leaders, strengthened institutions, and left behind a track record of performance, Amaechi’s political journey has been marked by internal wrangling, disloyalty, and self-serving ambitions,” the statement added.
