Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been honoured with the prestigious International Peace Award by the Global Peace Movement International.

The award recognises Akpabio’s role in restoring Nigeria’s membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global seat the country lost over 50 years ago.

In a statement issued by the President of the Global Peace Movement International, Dr. Mike Uyi, the group praised Akpabio’s efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic standing and commitment to international cooperation.

“Global Peace Movement International is delighted to announce that Senator Godswill Akpabio, the esteemed Senate President of Nigeria, has been honoured with the prestigious International Peace Award,” Uyi stated.

He added, “This distinction is a testament to his exceptional leadership and vision as an Executive Member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and one of the esteemed Commissioners worldwide.”

Uyi noted that the Senate President’s work has helped “elevate Nigeria’s international stature” and promote peace and unity through parliamentary diplomacy.

The award presentation is scheduled to take place in August 2025.
