Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundational principles that have kept her marriage to husband Nnamdi Oboli strong for over two decades.
Speaking during an appearance on the podcast #WithChude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni shared that the secret to their long-lasting union lies in a decision they made even before walking down the aisle.
“Staying married for over two decades, first things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option, even before we got married,” she said.
According to the actress, that firm commitment helped them navigate early challenges in their marriage, including a difficult first year together. Acknowledging that no relationship is without its trials, she stressed the importance of forgiveness as a key to staying together.
“There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she added.
Reflecting on their journey, Omoni revealed that Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and they tied the knot four months later. Although she was unsure due to her young age, she was drawn to the sincerity of his love.
Her husband, Nnamdi Oboli, also contributed to the conversation, offering advice to younger couples and underscoring the seriousness of marriage as a commitment.
“Marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work,” he said.
Together, the couple continues to stand as one of Nollywood’s enduring symbols of intentional love, mutual respect, and lasting commitment.
