Man stabs friend during argument in Kebbi market

Police in Kebbi State have arrested a 30-year-old man, Bello Amakwa, for allegedly stabbing his friend to death during an argument.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafi’u Abubakar, said in a statement on Monday that the victim, Auwal Umaru from Katami village in Sokoto State, was found dead behind the Central Market in Birnin Kebbi.

Abubakar said, “On July 21 at about 8am, the police got a report that Umaru was lying in a pool of blood behind the market. A team of policemen and vigilantes rushed to the scene and took him to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

He added that Amakwa was arrested after a credible lead. During questioning, the suspect confessed to stabbing the deceased in the neck with a knife during an argument around 2:30am.

The police said the knife used has been recovered.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, appealed to youths not to take laws into their hands when angry but to seek peaceful solutions. He has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
