A 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, has been sentenced to five years in prison for human trafficking by a High Court in Awka, Anambra State.

Justice Peace Otti, who delivered the judgment on June 27, 2025, said Daniel was guilty of buying and selling human beings, which goes against Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Daniel was given the option of paying a N2 million fine instead of serving the full prison term. She was also ordered to pay N2.6 million as compensation to the victim, who testified against her in court.

The case was handled by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Anambra State Command. NAPTIP said the ruling is an important step in its fight against human trafficking and in protecting the rights of victims across Nigeria.

Daniel was first arraigned on July 9, 2024. After a full trial, the court found enough evidence to convict her.
