The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the people who attacked Goodluck Iheanachor, the Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
According to the police, the incident happened on Friday, June 20, 2025, around 1:40pm, when a group of about 30 people stormed the council secretariat and assaulted Iheanachor. The attackers were said to have stolen his mobile phones, forced him to sign a resignation letter, and took away important documents from his office.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police described the attack as wicked and unacceptable. They said Iheanachor is currently receiving treatment for his injuries and is in a stable condition.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the scene of the attack along with other security chiefs. He ordered that everyone involved in the incident should be arrested immediately.
The statement read, “The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the attack on the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, Goodluck Iheanachor. On June 20, at about 1:40pm, about 30 hoodlums led by Mr Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and the Chief of Staff (COS) to the sole administrator, stormed the council office and attacked him.”
The Commissioner also directed the CSO, COS, and all others involved to report at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt for questioning. He warned that failure to show up would lead to serious consequences.
“We will not allow such lawless behaviour to go unpunished. The command is fully committed to finding all those involved and bringing them to justice,” the police said.
The command urged the public to stay calm and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to ensure peace and order in the state.
