Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is now facing a possible four-year ban after being officially charged by the Football Association for violating anti-doping rules.

The 24-year-old Ukrainian footballer was first provisionally suspended in December 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, a performance-enhancing drug. The FA confirmed on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, that Mudryk has been charged under Regulations 3 and 4 of the FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations.

In a statement, the FA said: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”

Chelsea Football Club declined to comment on the latest development.

According to ESPN, the drug may have been given to Mudryk while he was outside the United Kingdom. Despite the positive test result, Mudryk has insisted that he did not knowingly take any banned substances.

Shortly after his suspension became public, Mudryk posted on Instagram: “This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”

If found guilty, Mudryk could be banned from football for up to four years, as suggested by anti-doping guidelines.

The winger joined Chelsea in January 2023 and has since become a regular part of the squad. However, his football future now hangs in the balance as the investigation continues.
