New Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha has opened up about the deep personal connection he shares with the club, reflecting on how weekend visits to his grandmother’s house as a child sparked his lifelong support for the Red Devils.

The 26-year-old forward recently completed a £62.5 million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers and gave his first official interview as a United player.

In the conversation, Cunha reminisced about his early exposure to Premier League football and how Manchester United became a central part of his identity through cherished family rituals.

“It’s a funny story. Only in my grandma’s house could we watch the Premier League. My house didn’t have the channel and my cousin’s house didn’t have the channel,” Cunha recalled.

“So we organised to go at the weekend to my grandma’s house to watch the Premier League. He’s older than me and he supports United and he showed me the way to start to watch the Premier League and that I needed to support United.”

The Brazilian international spoke with emotion about the symbolic weight of joining a club that has been close to his heart since childhood.

“And for me this club was always a bit inside of me. When I played with him in the street on the gravel pitch, we called these pitches Old Trafford. Imagine. So wow, it’s so hard to be here now and then thinking about the past is very emotional for me.”

Cunha’s addition brings fresh energy and versatility to United’s attack, but his story also reveals a player who views this move as much more than a career progression—it’s the realization of a boyhood dream rooted in family, tradition, and lasting admiration for the club.
