In a surprise collaboration that has thrilled fans and industry insiders alike, award-winning Nigerian producer, Cobhams Asuquo, has been announced as the musical director for Davido’s upcoming 5ive Alive World Tour in North America.
The announcement was made in a joint studio video shared by both artists, where Davido excitedly introduced Cobhams as the tour’s musical director.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the legend himself… history in the making,” Davido declared, arms around the acclaimed producer.
“The 5ive Alive tour musical director!” Davido added in the video. Cobhams, clearly excited, responded with a wide smile: “I’m excited, I’ve always known, but I’m excited. It’s an honour and a pleasure. Today is the first time I heard what he’s been working on and I’m blown away… It’s time to get to work and start rehearsals.”
Cobhams echoed his excitement on Instagram, writing: “I’m super excited to be MD for the 5ive Alive World Tour. Davido, the superstar with the big heart. We ‘bout to keeel this!”
The tour is set to kick off on July 11 in Los Angeles and will run through to November 20, ending in Atlanta. The North American leg promises to deliver an immersive musical experience, now elevated with Cobhams’ creative input.
Davido’s longtime manager, Asa Asika, who recently got married, also weighed in with praise for the collaboration: “Now this is what we’re talking about! Well done Davido for taking the genius of Cobhams Asuquo with you on the world tour. Together, you guys will kill it.”
