The Abia State Police Command has arrested a couple, Blessing and Sunday Emebo, for running an unregistered motherless babies’ home at their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba.
Police spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said the arrest was made on May 19, 2025, around 11:45 a.m. following credible information.
Twelve children aged between two months and 14 years were rescued during the operation. The children are from different villages in Arochukwu Local Government Area.
“Nine male children were found with the duo, which includes Ojiugo Caleb, 14, Christian Okoro, 12, Samuel Okoro, 13, Clinton Nkemakolam, 9, and Godwin Emmanuel, 10.
“Others are Osinachi Nkemakolam, 6, Marvelous Emmanuel, 5, David Emmanuel, 7, and Testimony Emebo, a two-month-old baby,” Chinaka said.
She also listed the female children rescued as Ogechi Nkemakolam, 9, Chinaza Okoro, 9, and Anointing Okoro, 7.
The police have handed over the children to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and protection.
ASP Chinaka said, “The suspects are now being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia and will be taken to court after the investigation is completed.”
She warned parents to be careful and avoid leaving their children with strangers.
“We also encourage the public to report anyone who is suspiciously keeping children in their custody to the nearest police station,” she added.
