Social media activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has spoken for the first time since his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

In a video shared online, VDM appeared inside a car with his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, as he addressed his supporters.

Speaking on the allegation of money laundering, VDM expressed surprise, saying he doesn’t even have the kind of money people think he does.

“How would they accuse someone who has no money of money laundering?” he asked. “I’ve done many charity projects, and they wonder how. They don’t know I use debt to do charity.”

Despite the arrest, he appeared calm and cheerful in the video.

“Anyway, we are outside, with my lawyer of course,” he said with a smile.

VDM’s arrest had sparked online protests and strong reactions from his fans across the country. Many Nigerians on social media had demanded his release, calling it unfair.

Now free, VDM is once again trending online, with fans reacting to his statement and sharing the viral video of him in the car.

He ended the video by assuring his fans that he is fine and thankful for their support.
