Air Peace has said it will not hesitate to delay or cancel more flights if safety is at risk, insisting such decisions are never made for fun.

The airline made this known on Friday, May 3, 2025, in response to a warning from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, which had expressed concerns about constant flight disruptions by the airline.

In a statement, Air Peace said safety is its top priority, not profit. “At Air Peace, safety is and will always remain our cardinal priority,” the airline said. “These delays and cancellations are dictated by safety considerations.”

The NCAA, through its Director General, Capt. Chris Najomo, had earlier advised Air Peace to operate based on its available aircraft and warned against constant delays and cancellations that had triggered complaints from passengers.

Najomo said, “Air Peace must immediately improve its domestic operations owing to complaints of chronic flight delays and cancellations by the travelling public.”

But Air Peace replied, saying its flight cancellations are not due to fleet shortage, but for safety reasons. It added that it actually has more planes than the number scheduled for daily flights.

“Air Peace has more aircraft available than are currently rostered for daily operations. Therefore, any delays or cancellations we’ve experienced have absolutely nothing to do with fleet shortage,” the airline stated.

The airline also noted that poor weather, technical issues, or unsafe operating conditions often lead to delays and that such decisions are made in the interest of protecting lives.

“We fully empathise with our esteemed passengers who experience discomfort, inconvenience, or disrupted plans,” the airline said. “However, we do not regret taking operational decisions rooted in the protection of human lives.”

“We do not cancel any flight for the fun of it. It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause, and when we do, we are often the greater loser financially.”

It added, “We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed, or profit. If such situations occur again, we will do the same because we are not ready to compromise safety.”
