The Evangelical Church Winning All has raised alarm over the rising cases of violence, kidnappings, and banditry in Kaduna and Plateau states, saying it has spent more than N300 million to pay ransom for kidnapped members.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos, the General Secretary of ECWA, Reverend Ayuba Asheshe, said the situation has caused deep sorrow for the church and its communities.

“ECWA expresses its profound grief and deep concern over a surge of violent incidents impacting its members and communities in Kaduna and Plateau states,” he said.

Reverend Asheshe explained that in Kwassam DCC, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, over 20 people have been killed recently, and more than 100 others, including church members, have been kidnapped.

He added, “The Church has already spent over 300 million Naira in ransom payments, yet over 50 individuals remain in captivity, placing an unbearable financial strain on the Church and affected families, many of whom have lost their livelihoods.”

The cleric also warned that the constant attacks on farming communities could lead to serious food shortages because farming activities have been badly disrupted.

He called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders to act fast to stop the killings and kidnappings.

“These interconnected crises, marked by banditry, kidnappings, and brutal militia attacks, demand immediate and decisive intervention from government and all stakeholders,” Asheshe said.

ECWA urged the government to provide better security for affected communities and help rescue those sti

ll held captive.
