Liverpool star forward, Mohamed Salah, has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.
The 32-year-old Egyptian was due to become a free agent this summer, and there had been strong rumours linking him with a move away from the club. But with this new deal, Salah has put an end to all the speculation about his future.
Speaking to the club’s media on Thursday, Salah said, “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.”
Salah also sent a message to fans, saying, “I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
Salah has been in top form this season, scoring 27 goals and making 17 assists, helping Liverpool fight for their 20th Premier League title.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has won many trophies including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The announcement of Salah’s new deal is coming as Liverpool also moves to extend the contract of club captain, Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk, 33, said, “There is progress. These are internal discussions and we’ll see. I love the club.”
He has played every minute of every Premier League game this season and remains an important player for the Reds.
Meanwhile, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is also out of contract this summer, is believed to be in talks with Spanish club Real Madrid. Reports suggest that the England international is keen to make the move.
