Edo man hacks brother to death during altercation

Edo State Police command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Iyayi Omokaro, for allegedly hacking his elder brother, Friday Omokaro, to death during a fight.

According to the Edo State Police Command, the tragic incident occurred on March 25 in Uzalla Community. The command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday.

“On 25/03/2025 at about 1530 hours, a report was received from a camp in Uzalla Community about the killing of one Friday Omokaro, 38 years old,” Yamu stated.

He explained that a team of Ahor Police operatives and local vigilantes arrived at the scene, where they found the victim critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead. Officers also recovered the cutlass used in the attack.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased and his brother, Iyayi Omokaro, had a misunderstanding that led to a fight. During the altercation, Iyayi used a cutlass to hack his elder brother to death,” Yamu added.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and is currently in custody. He will be charged in court after the investigation is completed.

The Edo State Police Command urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid violence. “We advise the public to seek lawful means to settle conflicts instead of resorting to violence,” Yamu said.
