The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a 14-year-old girl, Faith Moses, in Emure Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area.
The suspects, Bashir Alaba, 31, and Mohammad Jamiu, 36, were arrested near the crime scene with two cutlasses believed to have been used in the attack.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, the incident occurred on February 9, 2025. In a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Abutu explained that the suspects initially attempted to rape the girl but slit her throat when she resisted.
“The two suspects were arrested very close to the scene of the crime with two cutlasses suspected to have been used for the heinous act. Investigation is ongoing,” Abutu said.
The tragic incident unfolded when Faith’s father, Joshua Moses, instructed her to check his trap on his farm along Okeseri Road, Emure-Ekiti, before traveling to Oka Akoko in Ondo State. Faith went to the farm with her five-year-old brother, Testimony Moses.
Abutu narrated, “On getting to the farm, information from the younger brother, who escaped from the scene, revealed that two men accosted them and threatened to either rape Faith or kill her. She refused and struggled with them. In the process, they brought out two cutlasses, slit her throat, and cut off her right hand.”
Upon receiving the report from Faith’s mother, Toyin Moses, police operatives from Emure Division swiftly moved to the farm, cordoned off the area, and arrested the two suspects.
The police spokesperson assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice is served. “We are committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face the full wrath of the law,” Abutu stated.
The killing has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for swift justice. The police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
