A gas explosion at Tasiu Gas Plant in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, has caused massive destruction, destroying cars, shops, and grains worth millions of naira.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Saturday during a failed gas transfer from a tanker to a surface tank. The blast set the gas station on fire, spreading quickly to nearby properties, including a grain processing factory.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident on Sunday. According to NSEMA’s Director General, Abdullahi Baba Arah, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported.

“Ngeil grains processing factory behind the gas plant was also gutted by the fire. About 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans were burnt in the factory. As of the time of filing this report, no life was lost, and the fire has been put under control,” Baba Arah said.

Witnesses described the explosion as terrifying. A resident, Musa Aliyu, said, “The fire was so intense that its flames could be seen from different parts of the town. People ran out of their homes in fear. We thank Allah that no one was injured, but the destruction is huge.”

The fire also destroyed several parked vehicles and shops. Firefighters arrived hours later, but by then, the blaze had already consumed many valuables.

This incident comes just weeks after the Dikko fire disaster, which claimed over 100 lives in the same state.
