The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the murder of Atiku Mu’azu, a retired permanent secretary and former chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.
Mu’azu, who had been living in Kano State after his retirement, was reportedly abducted and killed.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests on Sunday, stating, “Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the death of the Gombe retired permanent secretary and are now in our custody. As soon as the investigation is completed, the suspects will be charged to court for appropriate prosecution.”
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State expressed shock and sadness over the news, describing Mu’azu’s death as a tragic loss.
In a separate incident, suspected kidnappers attacked Garo town in the Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State early Sunday morning, abducting a young woman named Zainab.
Eyewitnesses reported that around 1:20 a.m., about 10 armed men stormed the home of a local businessman, Alhaji Auwal, in Garo Sabuwar Unguwa. The intruders broke through a small door to gain entry.
“They kidnapped the eldest daughter of the family, a secondary school graduate, and escaped,” a witness said.
SP Haruna Abdullahi confirmed that the police responded immediately to the incident.
“The police have swung into action with a view to rescuing the victim and apprehending the fleeing suspects,” Abdullahi stated.
The abductors have not yet made contact with the family, and the whereabouts of Zainab remain unknown.
