The Katsina State Police Command announced on Saturday that it had successfully stopped an attack by armed bandits on Ruwan Dorowa Village in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

The operation led to the killing of seven bandits and the recovery of 109 rustled animals.

According to the police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the rustled animals included 61 cows, 44 sheep, 2 donkeys, 1 goat, and 1 dog.

Sadiq explained that the attack happened on January 18, 2025, around 9 a.m., when bandits armed with AK-47 rifles invaded the village. A distress call was received at the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting immediate action.

“The Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with the military, DSS, members of the Katsina Community Security Watch Corps, and vigilante groups, responded swiftly,” Sadiq said.

He added, “The team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, which resulted in the neutralisation of seven suspected bandits. The others fled with injuries, abandoning the rustled animals.”

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the officers for their bravery, professionalism, and quick response during the operation.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public,” Musa said. He also urged residents to continue providing useful information to support the fight against crime.

The police acknowledged the support of the local community and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing security challenges.
