The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Taiwo Yemitan, for alleged ritual activities involving a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim. The arrest occurred in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.

The police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, announced in a statement on Sunday that Yemitan was apprehended at his residence behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni, Abeokuta, around 1:40 am.

Local security groups, including Agbekoya and Vigilante operatives, provided a tip-off that led to the police raid. Upon searching Yemitan’s home, officers discovered the fresh remains of the victim.

“The suspect admitted knowing the deceased, identified as Darasimi, and confessed to luring her to his residence with the intent to kill her,” Odutola stated.

Yemitan further confessed to the murder, implicating two accomplices—Kehinde Yemitan and another person identified only as Kazeem. According to him, the group planned to sell the victim’s head and body parts for ritual purposes.

The dismembered body has been taken to the Ijaye General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, police are working to locate the victim’s relatives and apprehend the two accomplices. Yemitan is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for further investigation and prosecution.

Odutola highlighted a disturbing trend of ritual killings in Ogun State, referencing an earlier case involving a man named Azeez Adebayo. Adebayo confessed to killing three women, lured through hookup arrangements on a social media platform called “MY CHAT.”

“These women were promised large sums of money, only to fall into a deadly trap,” Odutola explained.

Odutola issued a strong warning to young women against engaging in hookup activities, noting the rising number of ritual killings targeting such victims.

“Many girls involved in these schemes are slaughtered for rituals. Be content and cautious. Your life is worth more than fleeting financial gain,” she cautioned.

She also urged parents to guide their children and advised women to use social media safely.

“Women should focus on the positive uses of social media and avoid falling prey to its dangers,” she added.
