The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has successfully secured the conviction of 12 drug peddlers operating in the state.

This was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, who described the convictions as a significant step in the fight against drug-related crimes under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Ahmad.

“The convictions mark a major milestone in our efforts to enforce the law and maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and drug offences,” Maigatari said.

The convicted individuals were found guilty of trafficking drugs at the well-known Filin Idi drug den. Each of them received a three-year prison sentence without an option of a fine, highlighting the seriousness of their crimes.

Among the convicted was Lawan Sani, who had evaded capture for 10 months after assaulting an NDLEA officer. Sani was handed an additional two-year sentence, bringing his total jail term to five years.

“This landmark conviction sends a strong message to drug traffickers who exploit areas like Filin Idi for illegal activities,” Maigatari stated.

Commander Abubakar Ahmad reiterated the agency’s commitment to combating drug abuse and bringing offenders to justice, assuring Kano residents that the NDLEA will not relent in its efforts to make the state drug-free.

Maigatari also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking, emphasizing the need for community cooperation in the fight against drug abuse.

“Together, we can foster a safer and healthier environment for all residents of Kano State,” he added.
