The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and armed robbers during a raid in Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Okechukwu Chinwuko, 27, and Ezenwa Chinedu, 22, were caught with weapons and other incriminating items.

In a statement on Monday, police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the operation was carried out late Saturday after credible intelligence identified a black spot in Umunaga Village.

“Police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, raided a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South LGA. During the operation, we arrested Okechukwu Chinwuko, aged 27, and Ezenwa Chinedu, aged 22,” Ikenga said.

The raid led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.

Ikenga added, “The operatives also rescued two female victims who had been sexually abused by the suspects.”

The suspects are currently being interrogated, and further updates on their activities will be shared as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, police officers from Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Headquarters recovered a stolen Peugeot J5 Boxer bus with registration number AKL 896 XB, along with a roller and other items.

Ikenga explained that the hoodlums were caught vandalizing an electricity generator attached to an MTN mast near Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Umudege. However, they fled the scene upon sighting the police.

“The police have launched efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects. We call on residents to assist with useful information to help apprehend the criminals,” Ikenga stated.
