COVID-19: 37 years old new mum dies in LASUTH

A man identified as Femi Ojo has reportedly lost his memory after spending three weeks in a coma at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Accessing the patient’s condition, Ojo appeared frail, unable to speak or write. When asked his name, he whispered, “Femi Ojo,” but could not provide any additional information about himself or his family.

According to Funmi Azike, who discovered Ojo unconscious on August 10 along Works Road in GRA Ikeja, she initially contacted emergency services and the Prisons and Hospital Ministry of her church, Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja.

“I called emergency services multiple times, but no ambulance arrived,” Azike explained.

“We had to take him to LASUTH, but they said no beds were available, so he was stabilized at the Airforce Hospital with first aid.”

On August 13, Ojo was transferred to LASUTH Emergency, where he received extensive tests, including a CT scan and X-rays.

“He was in a coma for almost a month and was on oxygen,” Azike noted, adding that she and other church members have spent close to N1.2 million on his treatment.

Despite his progress, LASUTH has indicated that Ojo is ready for discharge, as staff hope his family can be located to provide further care.

“A series of tests revealed he had a brain injury caused by trauma,” Azike added.

A LASUTH healthcare worker, speaking anonymously, said that Ojo still requires ongoing medical attention.

The hospital and Azike are seeking any information that might lead to his family or provide additional support for his recovery.
