The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara, following allegations of misconduct involving a housewife.
The Kano State Hisbah, a religious law enforcement body, accused Sankara of inappropriate conduct, leading to his suspension.
Namadi has formed a five-member panel to investigate the allegations against the commissioner. The panel is headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bala Ibrahim, and includes the Commissioners for Information, Sagir Musa Ahmed, and Basic Education, Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, among others.
In a statement released on Saturday, SSG Bala Ibrahim explained that the suspension was necessary to ensure a thorough and fair investigation. He stated, “The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
The state government expressed concern over the embarrassment caused by the media reports linking the commissioner to the alleged misconduct. According to Ibrahim, “The reports have caused significant embarrassment and degradation to the reputation of the State Government.”
The investigative committee has two weeks to submit its findings.
Meanwhile, Auwalu Sankara has denied the allegations, describing them as a political attack aimed at damaging his reputation. In a statement on Friday, he said, “These allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation. I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story, which has been concocted by certain political elements.”
Sankara emphasized that as a married man, he holds the institution of marriage in high regard and would never engage in such actions. He also announced plans to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the false information.
The outcome of the investigation will determine Sankara’s fate, as the state government remains committed to transparency and ethical governance.
