Popular music executive and singer, Bankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, has announced his relocation to the United States with his family.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Banky W explained that his move is driven by “family, faith, and finding purpose.”
The singer also revealed that he will be pursuing a master’s degree in Policy Management at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
He shared heartfelt moments from the journey, posting photos with his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, and their son, Hazaiah, at the airport, alongside snapshots with close friends and loved ones, including fellow music executive Eldee.
Banky W, who co-founded the record label Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2002, announced in July that he had enrolled at Georgetown University, stepping down from his role as chief executive to return to being a student.
His decision marks a significant shift in his career, which has spanned music, entertainment, and recently, politics.
Banky W’s educational journey started in Lagos, Nigeria, before he traveled to the U.S. to study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
His music career took off in the mid-2000s, earning him widespread acclaim with hits like ‘Ebute Metta’, ‘Capable’, and ‘Yes/No’.
In addition to his music career, Banky W has ventured into politics.
In 2023, he contested for the Eti-Osa federal constituency seat under the Peoples Democratic Party but lost to Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party.
Banky W and his wife Adesua, who tied the knot in 2017, welcomed their first child, Hazaiah, in 2021.
As he embarks on this new chapter, Banky W requested the prayers and support of his followers.
