Kwara gov appoints first female VC for newly established varsity

Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appointed Prof. Medinat Salman as the pioneer vice chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.

A statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday, said the appointment was with immediate effect.

Prof. Salman will serve in acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive vice chancellor for the new institution.

She was a professor of Mathematics Education,until her appointment, a Lecturer at the Department of Science Education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.

It was reported that Salman is the first female Professor from Ilorin Emirate.

Salman had her Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1985; a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at the University of Ilorin in 1990, and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from University of Ilorin in 1998.

Her research interests are Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovation in mathematics education in the developing world.
