The Police Command in Anambra State has arrested a member of a gang that specializes in child trafficking.

The arrest was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement made to newsmen on Wednesday in Onitsha.

According to Ikenga, the suspect and other members of his gang are involved in trafficking children between the ages of 13 and 16 to neighboring countries like Ghana and Benin Republic.

The arrest was made following orders from the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, after reports of many missing persons, especially in areas like Okpoko and Onitsha.

Ikenga stated that the Commissioner of Police had tasked police operatives to nip such cases in the bud.

He also shared that one of the victims has been safely returned to Nigeria from Ghana and has been debriefed.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.

“The interrogation of the suspect will help to rescue other victims and arrest other gang members,” Ikenga added.
