The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen who attacked the Chief Security Officer of Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area Sir Dan Igbokwubili.
The attack happened a few days ago, and the police are determined to catch those responsible.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident during a phone call with newsmen. He said, “The command has received the report of the incident and has swung into action to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
Igbokwubili, who is a former police officer, was appointed as CSO by the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), and his cabinet members.
He was driving home when the suspected assassins ambushed him. They fired multiple shots at him and riddled his car with bullets before setting it on fire.
According to a source, Igbokwubili pretended to be dead after being shot at. When he regained consciousness, he tried to escape, but one of the assassins pursued him. Using his police training, Igbokwubili managed to fight back, kicking the assassin in the groin, which caused the attacker to fall. Igbokwubili then ran to a nearby hospital for medical help.
Reacting to the attack, Igwe Iweka expressed his disappointment, noting that it occurred at a time when the community was celebrating its freedom from cultists, assassins, and kidnappers. He said, “Obosi community would not fold its arms and watch hoodlums have a field day in the community.” The traditional ruler emphasized that efforts are ongoing to ensure the culprits are caught.
Igwe Iweka also recalled that Igbokwubili received a special award during the Ito Ogbo cultural festival in May this year for his outstanding efforts in fighting crime in Obosi since his appointment as CSO.
Igbokwubili, speaking to newsmen, shared his harrowing experience, saying, “Hired assassins blocked me on the road near my house, but to the glory of God, I escaped death. They fired a lot on me and later burnt down my jeep. Please join me to thank God for His mercies upon me.”
The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to bringing the attackers to justice, assuring the public that no stone will be left unturned in their pursuit of the perpetrators.
