The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being notorious gunrunners and recovered a large number of live bullets.

The suspects were arrested on August 29, 2024, in Dutsinma town, located in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

They were caught while trying to deliver 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to suspected armed bandits in the Yauni forest, Ummadau village, Safana Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the Katsina Command, ASP Sadiq Abubakar, disclosed this information while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters on Friday.

He identified the suspects as Ahmed Mohammed Kabir (25), Mannir Musa (25), and Aliyu Iliya (25).

ASP Sadiq explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition was sourced from Nasarawa State and was intended for a suspected armed bandit kingpin named Harisu, who is currently on the run. “The suspects confessed to their involvement and implicated Harisu as the mastermind behind the operation,” ASP Sadiq stated.

He also mentioned that the police are working tirelessly to capture Harisu and others involved in the gunrunning activities.

In a separate operation, the Katsina Police Command arrested three other suspects in connection with an armed robbery incident in Baure Local Government Area. The suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim (35), Abdullahi Nafi’u (35), and Adam Musa (36), were apprehended on August 27, 2024, following a complaint about a robbery that took place on August 3.

According to ASP Sadiq, the suspects allegedly attacked the home of Ukashatu Isah, stealing his mobile phones and transferring a total of six million naira from his bank account. “The suspects confessed to the crime, and the police are preparing to charge them to court upon the completion of their investigations,” ASP Sadiq confirmed.

The police command reassured the public that they remain committed to fighting crime and bringing offenders to justice.
