A State High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has stopped the All Progressives Congress from holding ward and local government congresses in the state.

The court’s decision also prevents the APC from suspending the current party executives led by Emeka Beke.

The ruling was given by Justice Godwin Ollor. He issued the restraining order on a motion brought by Peter Ohochukwu and Hajia Ndidi-Chukwuma.

The order affects APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Secretary Surajudeen Ajibola-Basiru, and the party itself.

Justice Ollor stated, “The defendants are restrained from conducting, supervising, holding, monitoring, or in any other manner conducting elections to form the Rivers State executive committee.” This includes stopping the APC from holding the planned congresses on October 11th, 16th, and 26th, 2024.

The judge also blocked the APC from enacting any plans to suspend Emeka Beke and his team. The case is set to be heard again on September 9th.

This court decision follows a statement from sacked chairman Tony Okocha, who recently declared that the APC will not participate in upcoming council elections.
