A civil servant with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Surveying, Mrs Funmi Salako, was on Thursday sentenced to two-year imprisonment by a Magistrate court sitting in Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Oyo state over a fraudulent deal with a deaf and dumb, Mr Musibau Ilori.
Mrs Salako was first arraigned before the court on June 5, 2017, on a three-count of conspiracy, obtaining and stealing.
The prosecutor, Mr Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that in October 2014, she conspired with others to defraud Mr Ilori, by collecting the sum of N1 million from him under the pretence to help him buy two acres of lands along Oyo/Ibadan expressway.
The chief magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, in his ruling sentenced her to two years imprisonment with an option of N60, 000 fine.
Mr Oladiran ordered the convict to reimburse the remaining of N500, 000 within 60 days or serve her jail term.
Responding to the verdict, defense counsel, Mrs Florence Badmus, prayed to the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that she was the breadwinner of her family.
The defense counsel claimed that the convict had already refunded N500, 000 out of the money.
