The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that Professor Femi Olaofe, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, has died while in captivity.
On Wednesday, State Commissioner of Police Adeniran Akinwale announced that the professor’s body was discovered in a shallow grave. He made this confirmation in response to inquiries from newsmen.
“Yes, the professor has been found dead, and we are doing everything possible to exhume the body for burial,” Akinwale said.
Professor Olaofe was abducted about three weeks ago from his residence in Ado-Ekiti. The news of his death became known early on Wednesday.
Akinwale also revealed that several people have been arrested in connection with the case. He hinted that there might be an insider’s involvement, suggesting that the security guard employed by the professor could be linked to the crime.
“They (abductors) kidnapped the man with him so that we would not suspect. In the process of rescuing him, we have arrested some people. I can’t say much about the security guard, but at the appropriate time, we will brief the public,” the police commissioner added.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
