Police in Ondo State have successfully rescued the victims of an abduction that occurred on Friday in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area.
The victims were traveling from the South-East around 11 pm when gunmen attacked their vehicle.
The attack resulted in the death of one commuter and the driver. The assailants then kidnapped five people, two of whom managed to escape with injuries.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omilana, said in a statement on Monday, “The assailants abandoned the victims in the forest. They left them behind after fleeing the area.”
According to Odunlami-Omilana, the police tactical squad, led by Area Commander Olufemi Awoyele, had been searching the forest.
Their efforts forced the abductors to leave the victims behind at the Oyinbo/Sanusi camp.
“The victims are now receiving treatment at the police medical facility in Owo. They will be handed over to their families after being debriefed,” added Odunlami-Omilana.
