The Osun Police Command confirmed the rescue of two individuals trapped under a collapsed building in the Sabo Area of Osogbo.
The Police Spokesperson in Osun, SP Yemisi Opalola, made this announcement in a statement issued in Osogbo.
“At about 08:30 a.m today (Sunday), a distress call was received that a one-storey uncompleted building located at Sabo Area in Osogbo had collapsed,” Opalola stated. She added that the rescued victims were trapped in the building.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abba, quickly mobilized a rescue team to the scene. “The scene was cordoned off to ensure effective and efficient management of the rescue operations,” said Opalola. The rescue efforts were led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Abayomi Shogunle, alongside DPO Dugbe Division, CSP Akinloye Oyegade, and other police teams.
Additionally, the NSCDC, Fire Service, and other emergency responders were present to assist the police. Opalola mentioned that the uncompleted building was being used as a home by some destitute individuals before it collapsed.
The two rescued persons, Shehu Abubakar, 45, and Muktairu Mohammed, 30, were pulled out from the rubble and rushed to the hospital by Osun Ambulance Services. Opalola confirmed that they are responding to treatment.
She concluded by stating, “Normalcy has returned to the area while the Commissioner of Police enjoined the people of the state to report any building suspected to be dilapidated or distressed on time for necessary actions to be taken to avoid reoccurrence.”
